IDUN Technologies is a Zurich-based neurotechnology company building the infrastructure for brain-sensing in everyday devices. Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from ETH Zurich, following four years of prior lab research, IDUN developed DRYODE, a soft, biocompatible dry electrode that captures high-quality EEG from inside the ear without gels or preparation. That sensing layer underpins Guardian, IDUN’s in-ear EEG platform now in its fourth generation, and BSIP, the Brain-Sensing Integration Package: a modular full-stack framework that takes consumer electronics manufacturers from product idea to shipping brain-sensing earbuds in months rather than years.
What sets the platform apart is that it reads and responds in the same device. Because in-ear EEG and audio delivery sit together in the earbud, IDUN interprets brain state on the device itself, built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S7 platform with Analog Devices signal acquisition, and modulates audio in real time. Three areas anchor the work: hands-free control, cognition such as focus and fatigue, and sleep, where an EPFL study of 52 Guardian users showed strong agreement with clinical scoring. Partners including Ozlo, Audicin, BrainLit and SigmaNova are building on the platform today. With processing kept on the device rather than in the cloud, IDUN’s ambition is to become the leading infrastructure layer for privacy-preserving brain AI.
